These sacks are donated by Friends of the Frio, First State Bank of Uvalde, and the Texas Hill Country River Region, and are available free at just about any camp/resort in the Frio Canyon. PLEASE take some with you as you float the Frio. This way you can sack all your trash as you go, and maybe even pick up some more that some"wannabe" Frio River visitors thoughtlessly left behind.
Yesterday dawned cloudy and wet from yet another early morning storm, but the day turned out to be warm and rain free. The Frio did come up a little, but it just reinforced the fantastic flow, and is in great shape.
We woke up this a.m. to sunshine streaming through the windows, and it is oh so welcome!
Yall get on out here, conditions are perfect for a Concan/Frio River vacation!
And remember, the season doesn't end just cuz the younguns are back in school by the end of August. The River is always awesome, but late summer and early fall days have more of a tranquil, laid back feel. Usually you have more of the Frio to yourself, and it's much quieter.

Thanks for the info frioman. I was just wondering today about Friends of the Frio- seems I have not heard or seen much info on the group lately. I will definitely grab one of the sacks when we are there. We have a tradition of collecting shoes along the frio- sounds silly and actually it is, but it all started one year when I forgot to put on my "river" shoes before getting in and of course I did not want to make everyone wait while I went back to get my shoes so everyone pointed out shoes as we floated the river and at some point we began collecting them. I was not interested in wearing any but it was quite amazing how many shoes we found, so now we make it somewhat of a contest to see who can find the most shoes while floating- silly I know but fun none the less and the best part is it helps clean the river- every little part helps right? So if you see someone floating the river with more than a few shoes tied to their tube you know the story behind it. :) Another benefit of collecting shoes, is they make great paddles for those slow parts of the river, although that does not appear to be much of an issue this year.
Counting the days till we can collect all those shoes! :)

6 MORE DAYS!! We have not been to the Frio in years but we are heading that way on Monday and we just can not wait. Thanks for all the pics and info to keep all of us updated.

You're right, Dad. Some of my best memories are of us doing Labor Day river clean ups. Now if everyone would just take the time to do it, our river would stay AWESOME all the time! It's too easy to tie that sack onto your tube and take off.
